The Kermode bear (Ursus americanus kermodei) is a subspecies of black bear found in British Columbia and the southern parts of Alaska. The bears are part of what ecologists and environmentalists have called the “Great Bear Rainforest”. Some individuals have a rarely occurring white coat that is unique to their population, a trait which has earned them the nickname “Spirit Bear”.
